Chris ashford opened in 2016 in the former home of his parent’s restaurant (which grew and moved to a new location up the road), has become a dining destination, creating terrific renditions of brisket, ribs, chicken and turkey, plus craveable sides.
Ashford was driving an 18-wheeler for a living when his parents, Ed and Waldean Ashford, opened Ed’s Smok-N-Q in 2006 in an old Sonic Drive-In on the East Side. Chris soon began helping his father when he wasn’t on the road. Ed, a former military man who had his own system for smoking meats, had started his barbecue adventures at home in Alabama before turning pro. “He’s been cooking his entire life,” Ashford says.
Owner Chris Ashford began helping his parents at their restaurant, he didn’t receive specific instructions on how to cook.“I learned being here at the restaurant with my dad,” says Ashford, whose parents own Ed’s Smok-N-Q. “We didn’t have time for him to show me. I just figured it out.”Now, he has built on the lessons he learned from his dad to create his own thriving barbecue spot and since then has had many accomplishments.
